Established in 1939 the Comet Theater is now celebrating its 85th year in business. The Comet Theater is the longest continuous running movie theater in the state of Minnesota. We are located in Cook MN, 30 miles north of Virginia on HWY 53. Cook, a small town of 600, borders beautiful Lake Vermilion and is also a gateway to Voyager National Park and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA). The theater is comfortable, intimate, and the pride of all who have grown up in the area. Come check out why.

The Comet Clothing Boutique & Gift Shop is is stocked full of seasonal fashion and gifts for everyone. We carry dresses, scarfs, tops, jackets, sweaters, leggings, jewelry, handbags, gourmet foods, cocktail kits, Lake Vermilion attire, as well as home decor. Get yourself a "Smoked Butterscotch Latte" with homemade syrups and whipped cream before you start to shop or before the movie. There is plenty to get excited about, so come and take your time looking.
Meet the Owners
Ryan & Steph Horner
Ryan and Steph first moved to the Orr/Cook area in spring of 2015 when they both took positions with the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary. Those first few years, they spent spring-fall with the bears, living on sanctuary property but then moved back to their townhome in the cities for the winter. They quickly fell in love with the Northwoods and moved up here full-time in 2017. Ryan has a bachelors in Biology & Steph has a bachelors in Wildlife Biology. While they both have a passion and love for wildlife and specifically the bears, they both share a background in business as previous managers for Target. This experience has helped them grow the business at the sanctuary significantly over the years. It is this experience that they hope to lean on to be successful at the Comet Theater & Boutique! Both have a love of coffee and travel, which they have brought to the new coffee menu. A few of their favorite coffee drinks have come from their favorite travel destination, Washington state. Steph has always had a love of fashion and had even considered pursuing a degree in the field prior to finding her true love, bears. They bought The Comet Theater in May 2023.
